Braindead, there are plenty of foreclosed properties in Philly for under $10K and even under $5K!

The neighborhood is called NICETOWN for a reason!

            Unemployment rate:
            Lubbock County - 5.8%
            Philadelphia - 10.7%
            not seasonally adjusted

I would take Lubbock's schools over Philadelphia's in a heartbeat.

Actually, in all seriousness, I know plenty of people who have purchased houses likes these, fixed them up, rented them out to college students (the first one I posted is a few blocks from Temple's campus), and made a nice chunk of change. It's very lucrative.

Think about it. You spent $10K on a foreclosed property and what? $20K more in repairs? It's a 3 bedroom house so you can rent it out to 3 tenets who pay $400/month a piece? You will be turning a profit after 3 years. The college students will always be around.

And with gentrification, you might just be able to flip the house 3 years down the line for quite a bit more money, especially the way the colleges buy up properties.

I could become a slum landlord. Umh, I could have minions selling crack and pimping crack whores. Perhaps a protection racket as a sideline.

now you're thinking! That high unemployment rate in Philly is an opportunity for anyone with some capital and a lack of morals!

That's what Marvin Harrison is doing with his multi-million dollar fortune from playing professional football! Slum lord in West Philly.

Housing is. Our cost of living index is higher than the national average even with incredibly deflated housing costs. That means things like utilities, food, commodities, etc. are all substantially higher than the US national average and especially higher than the third world.

Food is 24% more expensive and utilities are 23% more expensive than the national average. Misc which includes clothing, entertainment, and everything else you can think of is 15% more expensive.

Overall cost of living is 4.6% higher than the national average.

Now I just think you're retarded. Good argument.

Because it's just your spin to make a badly written movie sound cool? The movie takes a hard right (or perhaps left) turn and never recovers its initial magic. You apparently liked it anyway. Good for you, but your heightened ability to rationalize a bifurcated plot doesn't make you better than me--or whatever you're suggesting.
Only in your imagination is the plot as you describe. Perhaps if you had an attention span greater than the humans in the movie you could have followed the plot and understood my posts describing it. However, I do enjoy how emotional you are getting in response to me pointing out that your opinions about the movie aren't based on anything but your own biases. Sorry to point out that you don't have good critical reasoning skills when it comes to films.

Ah, symbolism, stock crutch for inadequately drawn characters. Stupid character with unbelievable actions? No problem, IT'S SYMBOLIC! He doesn't need to have a coherent motive or character when he's a stand-in for pride/folly/capitalism/anthropologists/gay sex! Come on, lecture me some more about the correct elements of storytelling. Did I miss some obscure allusions too?
Apparently, the movie was too deep for you. However, if you have any substantial points, please post them. All this post of yours has been is whinging.

Well, thanks for educating me. Would you like to tell me about the deep layers of meaning behind your favorite boring anime as well, or are you done assuming my dislike for your whiny Hollywood-liberal movie is due to some mental defect?
Because you actually think that it is a whiny liberal movie and can't defend that stance. That just shows how delusional you are.

Congrats, Elok. You're now just another forum joke to me. A pity you aren't able make coherent arguments when it comes to this movie. But I guess it's too personal for you to think straight about it.

Oh by the way, this Philly talk isn't exactly a threadjack... Philly hasn't had a Republican mayor since 1952.

See what 60 years of Democrats in power does?
