Sadly, I think you're right. They can't cut spending or increase taxes to balance the budget because everyone left, right, and center wants to live in la la land while the political process is so corrupt I don't see it being effectively reformed. We can't even get Congress to act in the best interests of the country because they're all bribed not to.
