Well for starters theres the constitution. Plenty of what the Feds engage in is frankly unconstitutional from the start. National defense is an enumerated power, Healthcare, welfare, unemployment are not.Except the bit about the state/local level. One might prefer that for various reasons, but not really for fiscally conservative ones. It's not like states and municipalities do things for free. If he's claiming that states and municipalities are significantly more efficient than the Feds, I don't know what the basis is for that. My gut reaction is that in at least some cases it would be the opposite...
Kicking it down to the states would invoke competition, well managed states would attract people and investment, and poorly managed states would do the opposite. This competition would gradually encourage the states to become more efficient. Plus there's the argument that smaller entities tend to be more responsive to demand.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

Ben, that's a lot like saying Doritos aren't kosher because they're not specifically listed in the Torah. Broad guidelines were listed and that's what allows people to decide today if something is kosher or not. The constitution works in a similar way in which it sets up broad guidelines but deliberately allowed Congress the power to do what ever it deems "necessary and proper" and just like Rabbis have decided Doritos are kosher despite not being officially listed Congress has decided things like welfare and unemployment are necessary and proper. Hell, Jefferson was the first US president to institute Federal welfare programs and he most of the founding fathers were even still alive then so it's hard to say it's unconstitutional when the folks who wrote the constitution clearly said it was.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostWell for starters theres the constitution.
