    Do you dispute this?
Stronger in what ways? Upper body, probably.

    Abs? No way
    Hips? No way
    Legs? No way

Hockey is all about balance and abs/hips/legs, not upper body strength. The excessive weight people can bench is useless on the ice and adds to their weight, slowing them down. This is one of many reasons you are incomprehensibly stupid for using bench presses to judge how athletic a player is.

      Holy ****. Seriously?

      Seriously...

Do you think you use the same muscles to do a high jump as you would to do a push-off on the ice? Seriously, Alby?

You have no ****ing clue how the human body works. You also have no clue how hockey works. The result is this embarrassing display of a rude, overbearing, ignorant American trying to judge all other athletes by the specific standards of his sport. Well done.

Get this through your thick, empty head: The traits of a good football player are the traits of a bad hockey player. And vice versa.

THIS IS WHY YOUR HYPOTHETICAL TEST IS STUPID.

You are so clueless, Asher, it's ridiculous.

          HEY ****ER

IT'S CALLED THE GLUTES, HAMSTRINGS, QUADRICEPS, AND GASTROCNEMIUS. All muscles should be involved to various extents when running, jumping, and skating.

You're the one that thinks the muscles used for a high jump are highly relevant to the athleticism of a hockey player...

I strongly suggest you do some basic research into kinesiology.

You seriously need to look into the physics and dynamics of how NHL players skate. Please do before continuing this discussion.

              • Asher you are officially an ignorant ****. I have just conclusively demonstrated that NFL players are, at the very least, stronger in the upper body and the legs (that's what jumping is a measure of; explosive leg strength and power) than NHL players.

                What have you said?

SO WHY THE **** DOES THE NHL MEASURE IT THEN!?!

                  • The muscles that hockey players focus on are the abs, obliques, erector spinae (and other back muscles), hip extensors, hip flexors, and quadricips.

How many of those go into bench pressing?

Did you notice it's way down the list of the things they measure? They measure all sorts of things because it's important to know the physical conditioning of the prospect. And it can actually be a bad thing if the muscles are out of proportion (eg, excessive benchpress numbers).

The NHL combine features the bench press, the vertical jump, and the broad jump. If those events have no bearing on the sport of hockey, why in god's name does the NHL test their prospects in those events?

I'm only going to answer this one more time. It is important to get a holistic view of the physical conditioning of the prospect to judge their overall fitness level and to ensure they're balanced in terms of strength.

The NHL combine is pretty pointless, it's not used much aside from weeding out the couple outliers who are very weak or physically immature. The most used number is the VO2 Max and, informally, how long it takes the player to puke while being pushed to his limits on a bike.

Huh? It's down the list because it's in ALPHABETICAL ORDER DUMBASS!!!

Those are MUSCULOSKELETAL measures. It begins with an M- so that comes after Aerobic, Anerobic (the people at Anaheim whatever website apparently don't know that e comes before n), Anthropometry, and Coordination.

                              Yes.

And NHL players are woefully weak compared to SMALLER NFL players. We get that.

Weak in the areas you arbitrarily choose to measure. Which, for the last time, is entirely my point. Your "test" is designed to favour football players. And you're so stupid you don't even realize different sports require different muscle developments, and therefore different tests and criteria.
