  • Perhaps, perhaps not. It's not a very good reason to keep the dictator in place though.

    • Sure it is, if the dictator who succeeds him would be worse...

How would you know ahead of time? What if the new guy was better? Do we avoid change altogether just in case things might get worse?

            • The Egyptian economy is beginning to buckle. It's the high tourist season yet all the tourist attractions are closed, all the shops & restaurants dealing in the tourist trade are empty, the ports are closed so since Egypt imports most of its food food prices are shooting up, and everyone from taxi drivers to government office workers are not working. The elite can ride it out but the common people will likely get ground down before Mubarak agrees to leave.

                  • Some dumbass came up with the idea of Mubarak retiring for "health reasons" and moving to a German hospital to wait out the storm. And some of our domestic politclowns are (at least so it is reported) seriously considering this

                    • Are you opposed to him coming to Germany or staying there?

Apparently your country has been Mubaraks's country of choice for health care for years now.

                      • Has it? Didn't know that, and wouldn't have really liked that either. But right now presenting this as some kind of "exit strategy" for him to save his ass it's esp. idiotic IMO.

                        • Just read he had several OPs in Germany. That's the typical bull**** our our political elite these days, paying lip service to "defending human rights and blahwhatnot" in public but either actively supporting guys like him for realpolitik reasons or don't have the balls to say no when it's necessary.
