I'd love to see the correlation between legal gun ownership and racism.

I thought we were talkin about crime here in the USA.
That is why I showed the stats.
You were talking about "black/brown" people. The same type of people you were talking about live here.
The fact that the stats are wildly different, just ~100 miles away, between the same demographics of poor black/brown people should tell you the problem isn't inherent to the people.
It's cultural. And gun culture does play a part.

As for what the numbers "mean" I already said it, but I'll repeat it more clearly: I don't really know. I could guess, but it would be just that, guessing. Which is what you're doing, with a tasty side of bigotry mixed in.

Then the black and browns in the USA culture is different.
Ours are more violent.

Those are not my facts.
Show us here how well of a guess you can make.
If your guessing then you really dont understand then!
Your math is off. If you are going to use percentages, you need to multiply by 100.
Doing that, I get a rate of 0.04%, or roughly 1 in 2500. That looks significant to me.
Yeah, my bad.
1 in 2500 is significant?
What about the rate of ones with firearms -- 0.0056%?

I can't see how gun control can bring down crime much. Poverty seems like a much bigger factor.
Yep, it's a big factor.
But higher volumes of guns in your country means higher percentages of those crimes being committed with guns. Which is almost always far worse.

Yeah, I'm sure if you actually had a home invasion it'll make you more paranoid.
I'd probably just invest in a high-end security system rather than owning a gun, but that's just me.
I have one, I just like being thorough.
edit: I'm also in the market for indoor/outdoor video systems now. I was actually in my basement computer room when the thing happened, cameras would have been nice.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
That may good for Canada.
Asher I don't live in Canada.
Come to where I live and your opinion may change.
Yes, you did. And I was actually crediting you with understanding something that should be pretty obvious: the culture in the USA and Canada is different (even that is quite a simplification, as one can talk about multiples cultures in each country). The economics may be different too. Asher, are "blacks & browns" overwhelmingly poor in Canada?
And FOR THE THIRD TIME: I do not know all of the reasons and underlying causes of the numbers you have cited, and I have no intention of speculating for your amusement. My point, and I stand by it, is that you haven't a clue either.
