  • No one is a hipster or Oerdin like proportions. Besides, the bands I've spoken highly of lately (other than Led Zep, Beatles, The Who, etc) have been the White Stripes, Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, and (I believe) Arcade Fire. I think it speaks for itself.

      For those bands
For being a Green Day fan also

the second is that if we weren't all already aware of where your irony was parted, you would have outed yourself has a hipster douche. granted, you're pretty much the picture of a hipster, but not a hipster of oerdin-like proportions.

also for the record, the Doors huff dong.
The Doors are certainly better than the woe-is-me NiN, Perfect Circle, Tool, etc.

              • I disagree.

Green Day is just as bad, if not worse. Dookie was okay, if not original. Ever since then, every single song is a cliche simple riff with anti-establishment lyrics repeated ad nauseum. Then they tried their ****ing awful Rock Opera bull****, which is just to stay that they strung together a whole bunch of simplistic, repetitive riff-driven songs with an overriding theme of anti-establishment (SHOCK). They did try to spice it up by randomly stringing several songs together to try to make it sound less repetitive (Jesus of Suburbia being the worst example ).

It's the fundamental dishonesty and get-a-song-out-to-sell-albums-to-angry-teenagers mentality of Green Day that pisses me the hell off.

And I say this as someone whose first concert was a Green Day concert back in 1995.

Weezer is 10x worse than Green Day and does all the same things that piss me off, but to more extremes.

I have the mental image of those assclowns entering a studio and just jamming random **** then say it's a song and move on. Both bands have all but admitted to this: Rivers Cuomo claims this is how he "writes" all of his songs, and it shows with the simple songs with simple lyrics that are highly repetitive. It's also why he releases so many damn songs so ****ing often.

Green Day admitted to the same thing, as their original recordings were stolen or whatever for their Cigarettes and Villains album after its completion so they had to rush out an album to meet label commitments or something. So was born American Idiot, one of the most critically acclaimed bland, formulaic, and highly ****ing annoying albums of the last decade.

                  • That ranking also co-incidentally ranks them in order of their live shows as well as their recorded output.

Weezer is the worst band on the face of the ****ing planet.

                      How can ANYONE like them?

Is the rest of the world so simple minded to enjoy repetitive, simplistic, vacant songs?

Just listen to **** like "The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived". It enrages me every time I ****ing hear that song.

It's not just bad, IT IS OFFENSIVE.

                      • Although I am judging both Weezer and Green Day primarily by their early work. I tend to agree about American Idiot.

There is a lot of beauty in simplicity.

                          • I think it's actually much harder to write a simple catchy song than it is to write a complex song.

                            • Weezer's Blue Album is quite good. Everything since has been varying degrees of crap.

Their early work was decent because it was more original. I enjoyed Dookie as well as Pinkerton.

The problem is they've not grown as musicians since then. They have a formula and they milk it to an offensive degree that is painful to my ears.

They have no passion for music, it's just something that pays the bills. And it shows.
