Nice. Gribbler isn't familiar with Dion. How's that for ignorant? Runaround Sue! The Wanderer! Teenager in love! I Wonder Why! Holy **** you are ignorant! Dion is a doo wop great!

    You ****ing ignorant troglodyte!

She took my love and ran around... with every single guy in town.... then the classic doo wop-era vocalizations... that is ****ing music.

Make a list, if you like. But your response wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, except for having basically no clue who The Who are. I think they did the Superbowl halftime show last year, though it was kind of depressing since they were ancient. Oh, and

There are very few rock bands more different from the Doors than the one you just mistook for them.

I stuck Dion in there as one of those "okay if you never heard of them" bands, TBH. I grew up listening to their songs when my mother played the Oldies station, and until I discovered the internet I always wondered "who the hell played Runaround Sue?"

When he put "Dion" it made me think of "Celine Dion", but I figured it wasn't that.

Yeah I don't watch the Superbowl halftime shows. And who made that song, then, if it wasn't the Doors?

You could also tell me each group's most famous song and I could listen to it and tell you if I heard it.

Because I'm not as ignorant as gribbler.

I still can't believe there's an entire city full of cavemen who've never heard of Led Zeppelin

There's something extremely funny about the phrase "Doo Wop God" to me. Kind of like "Smooth Jazz Badass" or "Bubblegum Legend." It's just a genre that doesn't lend itself well to deification.

Wow. Just wow. God you are ignorant.

Maybe you should just admit that my not knowing Led Zeppelin is just a result of me not being exposed to it just like you weren't exposed to Dion and then you stop piling on the whole ignorant troglodyte nonsense just because you want to look cool to the Genius Clique.

Dude, not knowing about Led Zeppelin is orders of magnitude more ignorant than not knowing about "Dion"

Why? Ben E. King, for example, is an absolute legend, and he was a doo wop artist. The Platters, as well. They shaped an art-form that grew so much beyond them. How are they not legends?

Oh and Elok, Dion isn't a group. Dion was the lead singer. The group was The Belmonts or Dion and the Belmonts.

Well, lessee...The Who are responsible for the theme songs for every CSI series, among other things. "Won't Be Fooled Again," "Who Are You," "Baba O'Riley," "Boris the Spider." Well, okay, that last one isn't one of their megahits

The Doors played a number of depressing-ish songs until their lead singer OD'd on every drug known to man simultaneously. I suppose their most famous would be "The End." "This is the end...my only friend, the end..." That was also parodied by The Animaniacs, IIRC. The song you quoted for The Doors was Fortunate Son, by Creedence Clearwater Revival, a jubilant southern rock band.

Also in the southern-rock category are Lynyrd Skynyrd, who played "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird," among a number of other songs that haven't been played to death quite so much.

The Grateful Dead played a number of folksy hippie songs that you pretty well have to be stoned to enjoy, I think. Their best work is pleasant but unexciting, I mostly mentioned them as a band that was huge for a very, very long time and kept the sixties going well into the 1990s for some people. They were like a living, fossilized hippie joke.

The Sex Pistols were a seminal Punk-Rock band. I don't listen to punk rock, but I know they were big in starting the ball rolling, which is about all I'd expect anybody to know who doesn't listen to punk.

I mentioned Cream purely because I happen to like them. Prolly lots of people don't know them, though they have heard "White Room," "Sunshine of your Love," and "Tales of Brave Ulysses."

                                Okay here's my list.

Same rules. please identify--without cheating, please--which of the following bands/singers you recognize. Note that the below list consists of a number of major names you really ought to recognize, a number of significantly-less-important ones, and a number that I simply made up. This will be earlier artists and I can follow it up with more later artists as well.

Bobby Connors, Percy Sledge, Harry Hancock, Sam & Dave, The Righteous Brothers, Marcels, The Musicians, David Ruffin, Little Johnny and the Teenagers, Howlin' Wolf, Drifters, Henry J. Jackson, Four Tops, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Percy Helton, Little Walter, Frankie Lymon, Donnie and the Edsels, Bobby & Darin
