Percy Sledge, "When a man loves a woman"
    Sam & Dave, "Soul Man"
The Righteous Brothers, "You've Lost That Loving Feeling"
Howlin' Wolf...drawing a blank for some damned reason, but I know I've heard him and the song is on the tip of my tongue
    Drifters, "Under the Boardwalk"
Four Tops, "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch"
Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, again drawing a blank but I know I've heard of them and heard a couple of songs
Frankie Lymon, "Why Do Fools Fall In Love"
Bobby & Darin...I thought it was a singer named "Bobby Darin."

    No Wikipedia or other cheating.

EDIT: Wiki says the Vandellas did Heat Wave, Jimmy Mack and Dancing In The Streets. Howlin' Wolf, of course, did "Spoonful," later covered by Cream, which I suppose is how I knew him.

SECOND EDIT: Hey, it IS "Bobby Darin," he's the dude who did "Dream Lover." You got your own bloody list wrong!

Okay, Elok. I know Sweet Home Alabama. It's featured prominently in Starcraft II Don't know Free Bird though.
I think I heard The End before and was like what the hell is this garbage?

The first Who song Fool Again didn't ring any bells though Who Are You... the who are you who who... who who... i've heard somewhere before but I don't think it was from this song.

What a strange turn this thread took after my OP.

I'll respond (one of them is a trick name that might have been unfair) but I want to see what our ESTEEMED, ERUDITE, BRILLIANT CONNOISSEURS OF POPULAR CULTURE (gribbler and KH) know first.

Knowing them, they'll probably read ahead and cheat. Oh well.

I'm going to be charitable and assume that "Bobby & Darin" was an intentional goof. At this point, of course, there's no way to tell honest recognition from Wiki-cheat, so the exercise is fruitless. I tried to answer quickly for timestamp purposes.

What a strange turn this thread took after my OP.

It was a logical turn though if you notice. Started with self's totally relevant comment.

And since you think I failed, Elok didn't get them all right.

                Fine, I'll respond early.

Elok, Bobby & Darin was the trick one. Yes, Bobby Darin (Beyond the Sea, Dream Lover, etc.) was/is an extremely popular artist and recently had a movie made about his life. Someone who would know though would know that Bobby & Darin would have made no sense (it was a Sam & Dave-style naming convention that I wanted to look familiar to those vaguely aware so I used Bobby Darin). Donnie and the Edsels and Johnny and the Teenagers were similar tricks... The Edsels were a group (Rama Lama Ding Dong) but there was no Donnie and the Edsels. The Teenagers were Frankie Lymon's group. Again, no Johnny and the Teenagers existed.

                The Marcels made Blue Moon.

David Ruffin was the lead-singer of the Temptations during their height. His brother Jimmy Ruffin also had a very successful career (What Becomes of the Broken Hearted). A little surprised you didn't know that since you obviously know the Temptations.

Howlin' Wolf... Smokestack Lightnin! It's getting play lately in a commercial for something.

Vandellas... Heatwave, Nowhere to Run, Dancing in the Streets

                Little Walter... My Babe.

And yet I don't know who they are and have never heard their songs. People I know who I asked were equally as unfamiliar with them.

WTF? Do you know how many rap beats have been ripped off from Led Zeppelin? Don't blame black folk for your own ignorance...

Not as many as you would think.

According to whosampled.com, Ice T and the Beastie Boys have sampled them a bit but I don't really listen to either. TI and the Game sampled them somewhere but I never heard those songs. Puffy did, but, again, I don't listen to Puffy.

Do YOU listen to Puffy, Tupac?

I faked my own death, you imbecile. Are you really so stupid that you thought the whole East Coast/West Coast beef was real? That **** was just meant to sell records to ignorant trash like yourself. I get along fine with Sean in real life; guy was just at my house last month.
