It doesn't matter what I think, it matters what society thinks.

What societies forbid Jews from marrying, by the way?

You are not going to win this one.

The boo-hoo Jews are persecuted people card doesn't fly in 2010 compared with the homosexual card. I trump you!

Asher, I am confident you are dead wrong about the US bringing Saddam to power. Nowhere have I seen that accusation before.
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

I, for one, am utterly shocked that an 18 year old surrounded by Republicans in a very wealthy area of West Virginia has never heard that before.

There's all kinds of supporting documentation for this, even if it's never been explicit (as such things tend to be). It's very well known that the US had a very favourable opinion of Saddam in the 60s and 70s due to his anti-communism stance and perceived "secular" values, such as granting women more rights and giving them high-paying government jobs.

Why would I complain about Android?

                It's my favourite mobile OS.

                Can't you get anything right?

No one should be surprised at the level of anti-American fervor in the world. The U.S. backed a lot of terrible dictators during the cold war. Pinochet, Rafael Trujillo, Anastasio Somoza Sr. and Jr., and the Shah of Iran are amongst the most well known.

Yeah, it is, considering it's almost entirely federal government workers with a large number of English-second-language immigrants.

You may've missed this point, which I DanSed in:

I'm sure you didn't know about any of this in your weekly Liberal study groups.

Asher, your perception that there can be only one persecuted group on the planet at a time is laughable.

Who said that? Or even implied it?

I'm just pointing out if your rationale for explaining why Israel is there consists of having a movement (Zionism) and historical migration patterns, and that can apply to homosexuals just as easily so long as we focus and give the movement a name and pick an official place to move to (instead of unofficial places like San Fran)

What about gay people would lead to their condition improving if they had a country to call their own? Do you think of yourself as gay first and Canadian second? If you do, how do you reconcile that with your contention that gay people aren't fundamentally different from straight people?

Not really. Unreasonable hatred of the Jewish race is certainly part of the equation, but they have a long history with Israel, including plenty of bad blood.

Yeah, gee, I don't know. I think a lot of them would like to marry. Others would like to go through school without "gay" being used as the penultimate insult. I'd like to be out at work without any fears it could affect my future job prospects.

Do you think of yourself as gay first and Canadian second?
Yes. I am more important than my country.

This is a very, very dumb question. Not one worth answering. I've also not made a statement either way on that.
