    • The right of free speech is a bar against government action, private citizens are free to support unpopular speech or not as they see fit.

I was referring to your post, Wezil: Obviously huge numbers of Americans fail the free speech test.

As for the government silencing speech through pressure on private industry other than self serving statements by Joe Lieberman, I don't really see any evidence that it was he who got the site kicked off Amazon. We're also left with the question of why the NYT is still in opperation as they seem to be gleefully publishing stories based on the leaks and have exposed covert operations during the Bush admin.

And I was referring to the Americans that have no problem with Wikileaks being shut down.

If these leaks have shown us anything it is that the US government will say and do anything to achieve their ends. Do we have to wait years more for the next dump of docs for the evidence on this particular issue?

Perhaps it is easier to engage in a DoS attack against Wikileaks (and exert pressure on their web hosts) than it is to suspend a newspaper.

Nothing at all. Especially since newspapers tend to band together when the government attacks any one of them. They even banded together to protect FOX NEWS a while back over an incident with the White House.

Yeah, maybe. FOX isn't exactly tiny but I accept the tendency in the industry to aid others under attack.

                      • Wezil, you need some evidence to back up that statement. I could just as easily say that Canada and Canadadians would react even worse that the US if their diplomats' communications were made public, because we all know how high and mighty they are.

I've had sex with during which a condom broke. I didn't feel it, and I truly doubt a woman will be able notice such a thing.
I do agree with you though that consent can be withdrawn at any time. (pun intended)

Is there any example of somebody being put on Interpol's most wanted list for something like this? And I dare say, has anybody ever been put on Interpol's most wanted list for rape at all?

For which part? The basis of the charges? Here:
According to accounts the women gave to the police and friends, they each had consensual sexual encounters with Mr. Assange that became nonconsensual. One woman said that Mr. Assange had ignored her appeals to stop after a condom broke. The other woman said that she and Mr. Assange had begun a sexual encounter using a condom, but that Mr. Assange did not comply with her appeals to stop when it was no longer in use. Mr. Assange has questioned the veracity of those accounts.

Or are you questioning the second part of that post because I thought that part was common sense.
