They can't do anything. They're just *****ing and moaning. And I was angry about them *****ing and moaning about something so obviously protected. But they can't do anything about it.

Oh, and one more thing worth mentioning. Newspapers are reprinting the cables. Other sites are hosting them. The politicians are only going after the people who leaked the information, and not the people who are republishing it. They want to take down wikileaks, not make the information go away.If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

And actually the correct counterpoint is that Senators can't overrule the Supreme Court. Although actually they could, but the public would never let them get away with it. Even Franklin D. Roosevelt couldn't get away with it! Andrew Jackson could, but that was a long time ago.If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?

It is, at this point, damned near impossible to "make the information go away." That would be like trying to reassemble a used grenade.

No, they mean "harm" to their other customers -- impacting their level of service.
Amazon is claiming they kicked them off because they were targets of a DDoS attack, which saturated their datacentre bandwidths and impacted the site performance for their other customers.
Wikileaks' DNS provider just said the exact same thing as their reason for booting them.
I may have misread the article (it was this AM shortly after waking up) but I don't think so.
They cited that and something about rights to publish the memos as violations of ToS.
I've tried to find the article again, but no luck so far. It could have been bogus and been edited out.Last edited by notyoueither; December 3, 2010, 19:13.(\__/)

Of course they would get away with stifling a real scandal. It seems most Americans "agree" that the wikileaks leak was dangerous, so most people wouldn't care.
Very few Americans seem to care about freedom of speech unless it involves their right to spout bull****."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

freedom in US is doing it's thing, without court orders
PayPal has frozen WikiLeaks' account in the latest action against the whistleblower website, which has been posting leaked US embassy cables online.
The decision by the online payment site – which WikiLeaks had used to raise funds for web hosting and other costs – has been announced with a posting on PayPal's blog.
PayPal, owned by the auction website eBay, said the account had been frozen because it was being used for "illegal" activitySocrates: "Good is That at which all things aim, If one knows what the good is, one will always do what is good." Brian: "Romanes eunt domus"

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange answers questions on the Guardian as it is claimed he faces imminent arrest
The WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, today hailed the person responsible for leaking the diplomatic cables as "an unparalleled hero" and suggested that his organisation had deliberately used servers in certain jurisdictions, such as Amazon's in the US, to test their commitment to freedom of speech.

My next door neighbour is Marianne Ny, the feminist chief prosecutor who has issued an international arrest warrant on Assange for vague rape claims by 2 women in Sweden. The timing of releasing the warrant, just before the diplomatic cables release, raises some suspicions. So get your Naomi Klein books and move it or I'll seriously bash your faces in! - Supercitizen to stupid students
