Oh, also, I forgot to mention Lorizaelism. It's my religion, and it states that I am an omnipotent time traveler from the future who gave birth to life on Earth billions of years ago and implanted our genetic code with the message ATGC, which is an acronym for Attention Triffids (I was wrong about which species would become dominant), Go Commando. I'm telling everyone to go commando because I used to go commando when I was a teenager, so if you do that, you're believing in me by following in my foot steps. Since all of this is true, my religion must be correct.Click here if you're having trouble sleeping.

Education has definitely improved. That's another thing that you claim that I disagree with you about, when I don't actually disagree with you. All I'm saying is that there are some people who have their thinking limited, in that they are not able to think beyond the rational. And faith has indeed declined (again no argument here), but what does the ability to think more rational have to do with the ability to think even higher?Originally posted by Asher View PostIt turns out that as education systems improve and most people are equipped with better problem-solving skills, religious faith declines. That should tell you something.
That makes no sense. Explain how knowledge of science increases our knowledge of the supernatural or lack there of?The key phrase is "when there are no other explanations". When we understand our world, faith in the supernatural diminishes and is replaced by knowledge of the natural.
And similarly why does the increase knowledge of science lead to lower church attendance? This is why religion is a dying concept. This is why church attendance is down. It's on a slow slide to obscurity.
If you know better then do please explain it to me.It doesn't change the fact that the default human condition is inclined to believe in the supernatural until we know better. We just know better now. Well, most of us.I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

They haven't read the Bible.Originally posted by gribbler View PostThe question remains why so many people go about believing in Zeus or Krishna or whatever if they're really wired to believe in Yahweh.

What the ****?Originally posted by Kidicious View PostThat makes no sense. Explain how knowledge of science increases our knowledge of the supernatural or lack there of?
Why would I explain something so absurd and something I've clearly never said?
Knowledge of science replaces supernatural beliefs of the unknown. Instead of thinking the Gods make the sun rise, we know exactly why the Sun rises.
How is this not obvious to you?And similarly why does the increase knowledge of science lead to lower church attendance?
The more we understand about the world, the less we turn to fantasy and supernatural explanations. Those are what religions are based on.

And Hebrews 11:17 "By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice."Originally posted by SlowwHand View PostFrom the Bible.
Nowhere in the Bible does it say that by faith we believe that the sun comes up every morning. Indeed, even the athiests believe that. Otherwise Asher would not sleep at night.I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

the debate has moved on somewhat in the last 200 years or so...The more we understand about the world, the less we turn to fantasy and supernatural explanations.
