Unlike the rest of the world, the United States rewards economic prosperity rather than punishing it. Americans should be damn grateful to, by the grace of God, been fortunate enough to grow up in admittedly the greatest nation of the 20th and 21st century!

America is the largest of the democratic nation states. Does it have the "best" policy in all areas, e.g. health, education, etc? Maybe in some. But its overall quality of life and so forth are very good. There is always room for improvement. And, lest one forget, its military budget is enough for it to stabilise various regions if and when it chooses. I'd much rather have the US as global superpower than say, China or Russia. Taiwan, for instance, owes its present and future existence to the United States.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

I think we mostly squandered what we were given. We had a chance at the end of the cold war to do something "great" (in many different interpretations of the word), I don't think what we did do qualifies. (I think the door is still open a bit, though we've done our darnedest to close it.)

I think it is undoubted that the US is the greatest country in the Western Hemisphere between Canada and Mexico

We're not even close to the being the greatest country in the world any more. We spent so much time mindlessly repeating that phrase that we stopped looking around at what the competition was doing and now they're cleaning our clocks at everything.

You know, I cannot understand how someone who's not from a country that isntt or wasn't at some point in history the greatest in at least one sphere feels. What do they base their patriotism on in countries like Norway, Slovenia or Laos?
Americans, Russians, Chinese, Mongolians, Germans, Indians, the Swiss have at least something to be smug about.

Having the largest territory among extant states, having the most nukes, standing up against the US and toeing the line for 30 years without exploiting the third world, etc.

Indian is the largest democracy, not the US.

If there isn't some catastrophe in the next 100 years, Indian will be greater than the US by most measurements.
