    I'll let my comment stand.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

In the United States, accomplishment tends to be applauded more than in other countries.

Unfortunately, douchiness also tends to be applauded more than in other countries.

        Jersey Shore?

        ACK!

I'm not sure what cheap reality TV has to do with American superiority.

I agree with MikeH, I don't give money to charity because I pay taxes and I expect the State to do the charity for me.

We should have a "rate teh country" thread.

It's comforting **** we like to tell ourselves.

And yet, it's often true or close to true. For most of us, anyway.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

Are you seriously contesting it? We practically invented BBQ. Thousands of rednecks compete every year to cook the best pig. The only people who even come close are the Koreans, and they lose for mediocre sauce. Oh, and Mexico gives it a game try. Carnitas aren't bad. But they do not hit the spot like a really piled pulled-pork sandwich.
