Our healthcare is the best in the world. That's why people come here for it.

Our education system is also the best in the world. That's why people come here for it. We don't send our American college students off to India to go to school!

I'm sure we could all find several different measures that would give the US the #1 slot and many more where it would come lower down the list.

The need to be acknowledged as the greatest country does seem to be a fairly uniquely American thing. Well at least it's an alien concept in post-WWII Europe. We treat that kind of nationalism very warily.
If you think for a moment why you treat it so warily, it should be obvious that this kind of nationalism isn't unique...

People also go to Thailand for healthcare.

3rd world people build 3rd world ****holes. One can only throw that much money at them before giving up.
Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

You know, that's highly debatable. It's a fact that there are no countries in the world that have a strict interpretation of freedom of speech the way we do. Even Canada and Britain ban some kinds of "offensive speech". In some ways, some countries are more liberal (in the classical Thomas Jefferson sense) but in other ways we are clearly on top. I'm not going to pretend that our system is perfect and we don't have places that could be improved, but when you get down to it, America's pretty damn good.

Our education system is outmoded and our educational performance is rapidly declining.
I just flat out disagree with this. Yes I go to that high school but look at our college education--people from all over the world go to study in the United States because we have hundreds of really good universities. Education is a major US export. And at the upper levels the US is way in the lead, when you consider things like how many Nobel Prize winners are American and such. And it varies tremendously by state--Virginia is considered to have excellent public education, while Washington DC's is absolutely abysmal. But ultimately, even though some statistics show our high school graduation rate declining or college performance decreasing, I think a lot of this is a function of the fact that more and more people are getting an education at all which tends to lower the average. But look at all the things that are invented in the United States.

The gap between rich and poor is widening at what seems to be a geometric rate, the true middle class disappearing before our very eyes.
I hear this a lot but I've never actually seen any evidence. I'm not denying the existence of any evidence, it's just that no one who's told me this has been able to provide any and I haven't really done research on it myself, so can you cite something?
If there is no sound in space, how come you can hear the lasers?
