As someone living in the paradisial states of Western Europe, I have trouble imagining this.

Imagine, then, your paradise lost.

Is that a five-day work week, meaning twelve hours per day?

9 hours a day, five days a week.

Do you perhaps count your lunchbreaks among those sixty hours??

A 45 minute lunch break and a half an hour break for snacks (both excellent and provided by the employer), both included.

How many hours do you spend in transport between your workplace and home?

~1.5 hours a day, all things considered. (If you include this, it take the total time devoted to ~10.5 hours a day, making for a 52.5 hour 'workweek'.)

How many hours do you sleep per night?

Eight, of course.

When do you buy your bread and other stuff? Aren't the shops already closed by the time you get home??

No. I get home by 7:30 PM to 8 PM, and everything is open. And you have the weekends.

Do you have kids?

None that I know of.

Do you have hobbies?

Yes.




All this, by the way, is in India. No social security system, no safety net, no unions (at least in my type of job), and no real checks on how long our working hours can be. I just happen to be employed at a good place. Our working conditions are quite generous, and way better than the industry average here. (All thanks to the fact that the government didn't understand the industry well enough to sink its filthy claws into it while it was growing, and had the good sense to stay away and not kill the golden-egg-laying goose after it became bigger.)

During our meetings, we sometimes have cookies/cake/etc? We have free coffee? I generally go get a snack or a meal 1-3 times during the day (other than lunch)? Lunch is expected, and is about an hour, including a bit of coffee/chatting?
