No; that's what taxes are for. Why aren't some county taxes going to the city FD for just such a situation? This whole situation is ****ing insane.

Exactly. In fact, this $75 sounds like one of those payments you could easily forget to pay for a legitimate reason...
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

I bet the city sees a surge in payments now.

I'm still pissed at that kid. It's not hard to burn things safely. It's the sort of **** you're supposed to learn at the tit if you're a podunk hillbilly.

                        City taxes.

Rather than what MOBIUS the Mouth keeps insinuating that I think, why not a county fire department? I would think there are county taxes in place.

re: paying after the fact, if they [the fire department] permitted it systematically people might opt out of the small regular fee in large numbers. Depending on the frequency and variability of fires, that could leave them with an income stream too irregular to support the department.

Good thing he didn't forget to pay his home insurance. You can't pay that after the fact either.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

They could just charge him a massively higher charge than the 75 $....for example 1000$
(after all he said he would pay whatever they wanted, if they just came and put out his fire).
I assume most people will find it better to pay just 75 $ a year, than risk having to pay >= 13 times
this value at once in case of a fire
