  • Some kind of coup is happening in Ecuador... and I'm watching it unfold on Twitter?!?

Apparently Raphael Correa has been assaulted by riotous police officers who protested a new law, is surrounded in a hospital and there are streetfights. Peru and Colombia have closed their borders with Ecuador.

It's rather sad to watch events like this unfold on Twitter. Information does not bring us closer on its own, common experiences and struggles do. Solidarity for the people of Ecuador won't matter if the people expressing it are strangers in the heart.

Also, did you know that Presidente Chavez is on Twitter?

Sounds like good news. Correa was a Chavez puppet.

A regime change could only benefit Ecuador!

Not a coup - the police rioted because they are facing pay and benefit cuts but the Army backs Correa.

Because it is a left leaning puppet perhaps.
