  • Should there be a religious requirement to hold political office?

Given how Islamophobes are intent on painting Obama as a Muslim with the hope that this will so thoroughly discredit him from running for a second term for president, I want to know how many would support religious requirement for holding political office.

Yes. People who believe in superstitious nonsense shouldn't be allowed to hold public office.

Um, there is a rule in the constitution about this. It says that you may not have a religious test. Why is this a question?

That doesn't mean that voters can't vote based on religion.

How is people including religion in their decision making process in any way similar to having a religious affiliation requirement?

People should be able to vote based on their thoughts.

Whether those thoughts are stupid or not.

I mean, it is like saying that a politicians opinion on the gold standard, gay marriage, peta, or anything else couldn't be used. Or that a politicians looks couldn't be used as a reason to vote for him/her or not.

            The Constitution can be amended.

I don't care what religion you are, church of Dawkins included among them, so long as you defend the constitution. The same works in reverse. I don't care how Catholic or Christian you claim to be, as an elected official the constitution must come first.

There is a flaw in the poll. A fruitocracy would be a country run by gay people and thus there is no proper banana option. Invalid

We already have an atheist in office, so I'd say that there isn't one.
