But now there's be about a 12 hour period where Jack is the most popular, followed by an undetermined amount of time where, out of nowhere, it's Hugo.

True. But even my reach only extends to the mid 90's. We do some great work organizing teens, but Jacob took the #1 spot in 1999 and I don't know any 11 year olds.

My main name (second first name Nikolai) only goes back three years on that page, even though I choose 100. Probably means it's less than top 1000.

My first first name, Frithjof, isn't and hasn't been in the top 1000 the last 100 years.

              --------------

As for Norway, here's the statistics for Nikolai:

              Here's for Frithjof:
Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139.14a

It is interesting how quickly some names "tip". Jacob, which still seems strange to be the #1 name was deeply unpopular in the 50's and 60's, but in the late 60's/early 70's it rapidly became more popular:

                1978 50
                1977 56
                1976 63
                1975 75
                1974 88
                1973 122
                1972 156
                1971 225
                1970 255
                1969 295
                1968 324
                1967 353
                1966 351
                1965 347
                1964 343
                1963 352
                1962 367
                1961 351
                1960 352
                1959 329
                1958 341
                1957 331

Do any of you old timers know any reason why Jacob surged in popularity during those 7 or 8 years?

There is no way that Asher and Drake are more popular given names than Ramsey. There's just no way.
