Right behind the mi5 building are a selection of clubs under the railway arches. There are some top nights to be had at club life and hidden. However buyer beware as I have inadvertently found myself in some full on hardcore gay nights at those self same clubs, thinking it was a straight night of course fwiw everyone in that area was really friendly, gay night or no

On the subject of columns, Sir Christopher Wren’s flame-topped Monument to the Great Fire of 1666 is the tallest isolated stone column in the world. Cleos needle in London was erected with a set of Imperial weights and pictures of the 12 most beautiful English women of of the day, amongst other things . Thats really quite impressive and forward thinking for a monument I have no doubt passed and barely acknowledged

Bear in mind that this is a city of just over 300,000, so we don't have much stuff...

Millennium Stadium - the main stadium in the city. We have a bunch of other stadia, for football, rugby, cricket, ice hockey etc...

Wales Millennium Centre - Concerts, operas, shows etc. There are a bunch of other theatres and concert venues...

Senedd Building - Seat of the Welsh Assembly Government

Cardiff Castle - the main castle: 2000 years of history!

Bute Park - The main park in Cardiff - right in the centre of town!

Cardiff Library - recently voted one of the best public libraries in the world!

Cardiff Bay - Cardiff's Playground

Cardiff's Arcades - there are a half dozen Victorian and Edwardian arcades, as well as several modern ones - making Cardiff one of the top shopping destinations in the UK!

Museum of Welsh Life - does what it says on the tin - from the stone age...

What an astounding rebuttal of my beliefs on architecture

They're not so much beliefs, though, as parochial prejudices. If you happen to like a particular late 18th and early 19th century style (Federal) then fine, but your attempted gloat

Face it guys, you can't top Washington DC in terms of landmarks. We have one for just about every important event in American history.

is pathetic. It seems to assume that the narrow band of time that constitutes US history is all that matters, and in a similar, simple-minded way you claim that DC architecture (federal style, spanning just a few decades) is "cooler" than anything in London - a city with 2000 years of history and a myriad of architectural styles, as represented in the numerous buildings, towers, bridges and monuments posted here.

If you can't appreciate anything out of classical, gothic, renaissance, georgian, neo-gothic, art deco or modernist then don't worry, you might yet grow to do so. In the meantime you're a philistine though.
