Happy Canada Day

I'm off to Trafalgar Square in my lunch break to see this Hockey thingy that the maple-munchers go on and on and on about. Not sure where the're getting the ice from on such a hot day but I'm sure they can improvise.

If I don't see someone getting a stick snapped over their head I shall be very disappointed.

I was quite shocked to see that the players could use both sides of the stick - though given it's shape I suppose there's no alternative. They could even use their feet. A most liberal version of hockey, it seems. There was apparently one minor altercation, the details of which I missed, but it did result in the chap in the stripey shirt sending a player from each side off the pitch.

There was also some kind of rap band which was a long way from my personal tastes that had to be endured, and I considered but declined to try a small but expensive can of Canadian beer.

However, on walking back to the office, by a strange coincidence I wandered down a street containing a pub called the Maple Leaf. It was full of people wearing red-and-white garb, and I tried a curious beer called Sleeman honey-brown lager. It was a bit sweet but not unpleasant. Thus ended my Canadian lunch hour.

Feet are allowed so long as you don't intentionally score off a skate. Most commonly used when you over-skate the puck (it gets under you where using the stick is awkward) to kick it forward.

I was at Trafalgar Square for Canada Day as well. I was with my Canadian fiance. This was in the evening, the Maple Leaf was too busy afterwards to be worth entering.

Saw the band that does 'I'm jealous of your cigarette' and ate a burger and they ran out of Sleemans. Boo!
