I Need Ideas for an Android Killer App

It's also impossible for the iPhone. It might be possible on Android, but probably not.

I've spoken with the guys a VeriCorder, who have done some nice audio recording and editing apps for iPhone. Their devteam informed me that the necessary internal hardware and connections are all there inside the iPhone (and for that matter, several other smartphones).

What I don't understand is, if I can put an external digital recorder in line anyway, what's the legal issue with doing it more conveniently? As long as I have the other party's permission (conveniently recorded), what's the BFD with capturing a conversation?

The problem is the audio stream for the phone apps on the smartphones are not publicly accessible. There could be malware apps to listen in on them, or any other number of privacy issues. It's not accessible by the APIs.

Confirmed. I understand that. I'm just saying that they (VeriCorder) told me specifically that it can be done, although it requires "off the map" utilization of the phone's internal connectivity. Apple doesn't provide that info to developers, but the capability, according to VeriCorder, is definitely there in the hardware.

If they did find a way to do it, it would be fixed in a new version of iPhoneOS. Further, it'd never get approval for App Store distribution.

I don't care who does it. I just want the functionality. If this existed as an Android app, I would switch to Android.

BTW, one reason Google is better than Apple. If your app has more than 10,000 downloads and a 4 star or higher average rating, you get a free phone once a year.

We've gotten another Nexus One and a Motorola Droid out of them this year alone.

Google's sent me 3 free phones over the past 6 months in total. Apple has sent me zero.
