Is a welfare recipient in California at the top end of the economic ladder?

No. I'm asserting that there are multiple ways to arrive at answers to many of these questions, that these methods don't all arrive at the same answer, that people choose one method over the other because of subjective preferences, and since personal preferences are involved in forming the answer the answer is subjective.

Yes, I get it. They have a job, at the expense of someone in the first world having the job and getting paid tens of times more, and having good conditions, eg workplace safety rules.

        Do you get that?

Your school doesn't offer a program in gender studies specializing in agriculture?

If you are going to reach this level of hair-splitting, I can point out that the question you're actually describing is "is the theory 'minimum wage laws raise unemployment' the simplest one that best explains the data collected thus far?". (Note: there has been some work on making even questions of that form objective.)

Seriously, you could legitimately call the answers to many of these questions "controversial" and make essentially the same point you're trying to make, that this was a bad survey, without doing violence to the English language.

This is the same argument that is made against automation.
                like, robots building cars.

Cheaper production means that the people in the first world can specialize in other higher value activities like designing computers or whatnot.

                • Robots don't peoples' jobs.

They move people to something more skilled.

It's not violence to the English language, just the arbitrary rules you try to enforce on others. Words have subjective meaning, that's why these poll results happened.

                      • "a company with the largest market share is a monopoly"

subjective. "the largest" could mean larger than all competitors, or largest possible. I guess I was wrong to call it objective.

the one where monopolies have near 100% market share

I doubt that is the case, actually. These poll results probably happened because people have a predilection to believe things that support their ideology. There are sets of questions that could be asked regarding market failures and government interventions that would probably have reversed the pattern show in this survey.

I'm sorry but I just see your assertion of someone reading that as largest possible as rather flimsy.
