And that a bunch of bull****. Flat on consumption is just a lie. Who cares if it's flat on consumption, it's not a flat tax so it's not the same thing. It's not the same thing with regard to incentives, because people will save more with a consumption tax and rich people will pay less than they would with a flat tax. Your full of ****. And you try to cover it up with your crap.I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

Once again here is your post. It's a total load of crap. No way around it.Originally posted by KrazyHorse View PostThe only difference between a flat tax and the VAT is in where it's collected and possibly the treatment of already-existent capital (the VAT expropriates those who already have large sums of money relative to the flat tax). The incentive effects are identical.

That's bull****, because the post I responded to said nothing about the current tax system in the US. It's in regards to two fantasy right wing taxes which are both bull**** in the first place. Everyone who fantasizes about them is completely full of ****.Originally posted by KrazyHorse View PostIn fact, the WHOLE POINT of why this tax is superior to the current income tax is in its differential treatment of earned and unearned income (removing the distortion at the saving/spending margin).
If you could read you would have noticed me making precisely that point.I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

Does anybody have any clue what this ****** is on about any more? A flat tax on consumption is "a lie"?
Flat tax proposals I've heard of are flat taxes on earned income. I've been quite explicit about this since the start of the thread.

A flat tax is a flat tax on income. If you want to talk about some silly little gimmic **** that only right wing nuts fantasize about than be more specific for the rest of us. NO, you were not clear about this before I responded to your posts. If you think you were then let's have a look.Originally posted by KrazyHorse View PostDoes anybody have any clue what this ****** is on about any more? A flat tax on consumption is "a lie"?

Are there any big advantages of a VAT over a cash flow or yield exemption consumption tax? Seems like it would be easier to impose progressive rates in a cash flow/yield exemption consumption tax.Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try. -Homer

"A flat tax (short for flat rate tax) is a tax system with a constant tax rate.[1] Usually the term flat tax refers to household income (and sometimes corporate profits) being taxed at one marginal rate, in contrast with progressive taxes that vary according to parameters such as income or usage levels. Flat taxes offer simplicity in the tax code, which has been reported to increase compliance and decrease administration costs.[2]Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostHis argument has essentially been to repeat liar over and over again...I don't think he even has a point anymore.
Flat taxes that allow a tax exemption for household income below a cutoff level are not true proportional taxes, because, for household incomes below the cutoff level, taxable income is less than total income."

You're welcome to your definition, but it's not the one used in flat tax proposals I've seen.Originally posted by Kidicious View PostA flat tax is a flat tax on income
In general, a flat tax is any tax in which the marginal rate is independent of the quantity. You could have a flat tax on gasoline or on number of hours worked. "Flat tax" as usually used is flat tax on earned income.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET
