If I don't want it, why would I bother to work hard all day day to get it? Is there some other definition of want?

There are in fact different levels of want. I realize that this will be an incredible revelation to you as you seem to live in your own little world.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostIf I don't want it, why would I bother to work hard all day day to get it? lol I support progressive taxation. I'm just trying to explain high school level concepts to you. (or maybe middle school level?)Originally posted by Kidicious View PostI'm not going to let you bull**** your way into a semantics argument with me. You're lying. A consumption tax is lower for rich people than a flat tax. Everyone knows that.
Yes, you want lower tax for rich people. We get that.

Really? It's hard to tell when you can't understand that a sales tax is regressive.Originally posted by gribbler View Postlol I support progressive taxation.

And you're a liar.A value-added tax or other sales tax on food and other essentials such as clothing, transport, and residential rents can be regressive.

And he's the one who isn't getting schooled. Dude, how hard is this? Markets (assuming all parties are equally informed, but bleh it's close enough for this) exactly determine the value of of a product. Labor, like everything else, is purchased on a market. The reason these people get paid so much is because someone, somewhere thinks it is worth it. They aren't setting their own ****ing salaries. If loans are available for education and starting businesses, then wealth is not locked up with the upper class, because they presumably keep their money in a bank. So the idea of "earning too much" is ridiculous. If you don't like how much you're getting paid, why don't you try to find someone who will pay you more? If they won't, I guess you just aren't valuable enough. I'm sorry; it's not MY fault that you suck.Originally posted by Kidicious View PostYou're the one who agrees with him, not me.
KrazyHorse, I gather you are an economist, so if I'm wrong about something then please feel free to correct it, but I'd rather not be considered a '****'...I'm trying to learn

You're making it look hard for yourself. You can't understand that the value that Drake gets from watching savings accumulate in his bank account is of less value to him than a poor person gets value from paying the rent?Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostAnd he's the one who isn't getting schooled. I fully understand why people consider it a regressive tax on income. I'm trying to make you understand why it is flat on consumption. And you seem to be failing.Originally posted by Kidicious View PostReally? It's hard to tell when you can't understand that a sales tax is regressive.
And if you think that with a sales tax, the overall tax scheme can only be regressive on income, you're an idiot. It is possible to give people rebates.

That has nothing to do with the issue we're talking about. No. That's a lie. You were arguing that a sales tax is in effect, the same as a flat tax.Originally posted by gribbler View PostI fully understand why people consider it a regressive tax on income. I'm trying to make you understand why it is flat on consumption. And you seem to be failing.
No one said anything about rebates.
