If people earning 20k are "relatively comfortable" compared to people 40 years ago, then obviously people earning 100k must be living like the super-rich of 40 years ago.

So clearly we should heavily tax everyone earning more than 100k and use the money to give health care to the poor. The wealthy will still be able to live like millionaires (of 40 years ago) and the poor will have health care. Win-win!

There's something pathological about wanting to accumulate more cash than you can spend anyway. Less than a million dollars would be enough to take care of almost any single person's needs for life. If you're not spending it, and it's not needed as insurance, is it really more valuable than a pile of WoW Gold?
