People and the arts sure have been very concerned with them since, I suppose, the dawn of time.

I think I'd like to meet one someday. Or become one. I could think of some pretty interesting things to do as a ghost if given even the most basic er, personal freedoms.

When I was a kid and stayed in my grandparents' summer cottage on the edge of the forest I used to 'see' odd things on the edge of my field of vision all the time. I can definitely see where people who live in lonely places are getting their ideas from.

Phrasing it that way makes it impossible to answer "No" in a meaningful way. I think the possibility of ghosts existing is so small as to not be worth considering, but you can't rule out anything with "absolute certainty." So ghosts rank right up there with leprechauns, unicorns, gods and the like. You can't prove any of them absolutely untrue.

What about their mass?

If they have no mass, then, they are not bound to gravity and because of earth movement around the sun, the sun around the center of the galaxy and the galaxy in space, a ghosts cannot stay in the exact haunted, earthly location. A no-mass (no inertia) creature, not bound to gravity would be ejected in space in no time.

If ghosts have mass, then they are bound to gravity.
But if they are not stopped by walls, neither are they by floors. So, a ghost with mass should be dragged to the center of the earth.

So, in both cases (mass/ no mass), a ghost would need constant energy to maintain his position in the haunted location.

I say leprechauns, unicorns or even fire-breathing dragons are more likely to exist.

Since ghosts are by definition supernatural entities, isn't trying to apply physics to them a bit moot?

Once you go down the path of believing in essentially "magical" beings, you can just accept that they do anything via "magic."
