I hope for the best for you, your family and your countrymenWith or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

We do have a number of Chileans that the US previously had sent here, and local news has of course talked to them - it seems that it isn't so bad, but since net is down, there are uncertainities.
One of the more peculiar comments there has been is that Pinochet actually is to be honorued for the earthquake safety of chilean buildings - he apparently has been a proponent for safe building. Considering that chilieans here isn't actually supporters of Pinochet,I find it kind of reliable. Does this have any kind of connection with reality ?

Here's a good article about being better prepared. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35623502...ti_earthquake/Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

Wow, President. What a huge quake. I'm glad that you made it out relatively unscathed.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

A very strong aftershock just woke us up. TV is showing air footage from the small towns of Duao, Iloca and Copqeucura (very near of the epicenter) and there is little left to be saved. They were very small quiet places, most of us didnt even heard before the name of those towns.
In Santiago rescue teams are trying to reach a collapsed underground parking at Bilbao Towers, which seems have crushed more than 50 cars.
Reports indicates that the Chemestry Faculty of the University of Concepcion just blew up in a massive explosion. In the same city a building collapsed kinda of the Twin Towers of NY, but not to the ground, the collapse was in the interior. Nobody knows the exact amount of people trapped inside.
In Talcahuano the Asmar and Navy shipyard are vanished. While in the city Main Square several ships have crashed against buildings and cars after the tsunami.
In my very own city, far from the epicenter, a 15 floor building is sinking over it's own basis, but most of the town is getting slowly back on track.>>> El cine se lee en dvdplay <<<

Regarding that wake-up...
The latest tremor, whose epicenter was 22 miles deep, measured 6.1 on the Richter scale and hit at 8:25 a.m. local time.
If the death toll stays this low, Chile really does deserve praise for being prepared.

Three very sad news, Bay Cumberland at Robinson Crusoe island has suffered total destruction. The sea devastate 3Km of the town coastline. The people in Bay Cumberland didnt feel the quake and as they were sleep most of them didnt even heard the tsunami alert. The Navi frigate Condell is evacuating the survivors.
The O'Higgins tower building at Concepcion has began to collapse, no survivor has been found.
All the patients with oxygen support, on the Talca Central Hospital, died. Talca is one of the most affected cities in the south of Chile and it seems that power generators where destroyed with the collapse of a wing of the hospital.
Normality is getting back to the biggest central cities in Chile, like Santiago, Valparaiso, Viña del Mar and Rancagua. Power, water, telephones, cable tv and Internet are back in most of them.
The National Congress at Valparaiso suffered some damages and one of the wings of the Presidencial Palace of La Moneda has been closed.>>> El cine se lee en dvdplay <<<

And a very good and incredible news; although the towns of Iloca and Duao were devastated by two huge waves of the tsunami the official report is that no one is dead or missing in those towns. Evacuation messures worked perfectly!
Even the tigers, lyons and monkeys of a circus in Duao were evacuated.
Duao and Iloca doesnt exist anymore as towns, but all of the people are alive and with no serious injuries. A happy news among all the sadness.>>> El cine se lee en dvdplay <<<

Keep us updated, CP!
Glad to hear some good news among all the sad.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
