Looks like the plows came while I was out doing some errands.

Looks like I have to dig out the drive way for the third time.

Living in a condo with employees who shovel the walks for us FTW!
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The office is going to be open tomorrow. Strikes me as a nightmare. The roads are going to turn to glass overnight as they refreeze. And then it's going to start snowing/icing again about noon.

Any word on whether the above ground metro stations are opening up again?

No word yet. I doubt it, though.

Maybe the powers that be will reverse themselves.

Can't you cancel meetings and say "for the sake of the "company" I'll not risk breaking a leg", so I work from home ?

Personally, I could do that. But my boss is without power and internet, for instance. So you can't make a blanket policy. Besides, many have jobs that can't be done remotely.

That's too bad. I worked from home today, and probably will again tomorrow (assuming the metro is still down). My underlings are all in the office.

Now the National Weather Service is saying 10" to 20" of additional snow downtown for tomorrow and Wednesday.

I might not get downtown all week!

                        This is nuts!

When do you yanks figure out that buried cables are the best

Well, that can be a reason

Actually, the more working home makes the traffic going smoother for those that can't (and it weeds out those that can't drive in snow without endangering you )

Some of the more progressive places figured it out long ago. Hell, we don't even get snow here except a light dusting once every 20 years or so yet 90% of our utility lines are underground. Why can't you east coasters catch up?

San Diego more progressive than DC?
