I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I don't really see it as a pejorative; it's an accurate description. There are all sorts of deniers, some right, some wrong, some ambiguous. It's just a word, for Christ's sake."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine
"The subject of onanism is inexhaustable." --Sigmund Freud

You say that there are all sorts of deniers, so tell me where you have heard the term other than as it relates to the holocaust. You should have a long list.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. Nice DanSing there, accusing me of making things up, and then (correctly) tempering your response.
I assure you, I haven't made any of those up, nor the other examples one can find on virtually any blog or in any political or science book.
It's just a word, Dan. Come down off your high horse and play in the muck with the rest of us yahoos.
EDIT: Christ, I don't know if you DanSed, then reverse DanSed, or if the quote function is just screwed up."My nation is the world, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine

No, I DanS'ed it back. You're just making **** up.
"Evolution Denier" = only 10,000 hits on Google
"Creation Denier" = only 159 hits on Google
"Moon Landing Denier" = only 50,000 hits on Google
"UFO Denier" = only 126 hits on GoogleI came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. Frankly, it's obvious that MikeH didn't mean it in an insulting way other than to express his opinion that the other side is wrong. DanS's harping on this is just a smear tactic to avoid discussing the issue and to attack a poster whom he disagrees with.“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. I will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.”
"Capitalism ho!"

If he used the phrase carelessly, then I would accept that explanation.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. You are using the propaganda phrase of "believers" to make it sound like people who are not deniers are doing so based purely on faith like religious people. Difference being, you don't need faith to 'believe' in AGW because the scientific evidence is there.
If you think it's wrong for me to use a phrase which you interpret to be propaganda, shouldn't you try to hold yourself to your own high standards?
Someone who denies the facts about AGW is a denier. They might think they are not a denier because they are wrong, but that doesn't change the fact.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth

I used it on purpose to prove a point, you dopes. Language matters and the full meaning isn't always in the dictionary.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. as a.kitman points out - Caligastia used "believers" before I used "deniers". I was responding to him. You should have had a go at him.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth
