Yep, look for all the stupid racist things the usual conservative commentators say regarding this. All they do is hate.

In Limbaugh's defense, Obama should have been more Johnny on the spot over that incident rather than letting incompetents in his admin shape the message. Still I see nothing wrong with him coming out immediately in the face of the latest Hatian disaster.

I'd accept that defense of Limbaugh had Bush been more "Johnny-on-the-spot" when it came to the equally ineffective shoe bomber, when Bush took longer to respond, or when it came to Katrina, which is a whole other can of worms that needn't be opened again.

And, I should say, when I say this brings out the worst in people, I include myself. I don't like myself when I get all pissy like this, but goddamn.

Well the good news is that my friend got in touch with his mother, she is alive and doing ok. Very tired and emotionally devastated, but physically fine. Some of her colleagues are still unaccounted for.

Is there really a defense for someone leaping on a devastating tragedy like Haiti, only a day afterwards, to make a cheap political attack connecting it to what is really an unrelated incident?

I saw Robertson's comments and figured they came from the Onion. I can't believe that a public figure would spout crap like that but then again, I have to consider the source.

Ugh. Like Haiti needed some more **** dumped on it.

I'm even more glad we gave a bunch of money to Doctors w/o Borders this year. Apparently they have a ton of people missing?

My manager's wife (a nurse with the Canadian Forces and university nursing prof) is going to be on the next C-17 flight to Haiti.

Now that DD has defended Limbaugh, I want to see him defend Robertson.

Unfair. No matter how much you or I disagree with DD's political views, one thing he has not demonstrated is any sort of whackadoo fundamentalist views. It's one of several reasons that he deserves respect.

On the earthquake in Haiti, from the looks of the damage on TV their entire infrastructure has been devastated. The question is how much assistence will they get to rebuild and can this be an opportunity to actually start over for them or we patch them up and move along.

The Red Cross in Haiti is estimating 45,000-50,000 dead right now.

But there's no water, little food, no electricity... so millions are still at risk.

Pres. Clinton said that sending money is the best thing to do right now, as there is a backlog of physical supplies that just can't get to Haiti, or are sitting at the airport undistributed, because there aren't yet means to do so yet.

That's a lot lower than initial estimates of hundreds of thousands.
