At half time I drove her to the hospital only to discover that the pressure change had burst a lot of women's bags and since we had taken our time getting there, all the rooms were already taken so my wife was stuck on a couch (which I hope they eventually disposed of) in the waiting room. She never held it against me.

That's why I always have to laugh when I see those (where man loses all common sense during the frantic rush to the hospital). For us, my wife just said, "we can probably wait for halftime, there only a few more minutes left".

        Thanks all.

The NICU folks came to see my wife and chat and (unsurprisingly) don't sound the slightest bit concerned. As many of you have noted, 34 weeks just isn't THAT early. She may have to have a feeding tube, depending, though apparently preemie girls tend to have less problems in that area than preemie boys. Who knew? Lots of people, probably, but not me. So side bonus there.

The guesstimate on her size is 4lbs, 2oz (based on ultrasound measurements). We'll find out for real in a day or two (I'm thinking the delivery will be either tomorrow afternoon or Friday). My wife is doing fine, other than being tired of being stuck in a hospital bed (and knowing that she'll be in the hospital for 4 days after the C-section, too).

          rah,

Love that story, btw. We will probably never know how/why her water broke. I like that you two at least had a plausible theory!

Apparently, with me, my parents were at the theatre. My mom was in labor (water not broken though). Contractions and whatnot. They stayed for the whole play. Eh, they paid for it right? They went home. They went to bed (wtf?). Then the water breaks. 2am they gotta find a cab in NYC to get them to the hospital. Which was apparently a bit of fun.

I told him that he'd be naming his kid after two separate eighties icons, one of whom was an apparently alcoholic bull terrier. He said eh, that was cool with him. The hell of it is, he's a neandercon, but his wife's Irish, so I'll never know if he's actually naming my niece after a crummy president.

Congrats and good luck! 34th week is not that dangerous anymore. I know a girl that was born about that early, a little earlier I think, which turned out fine. And she's born more than 20 years ago. This will be fine.
