  • How Long is Your Commoote?

    From:

Americans and Canadians have it too good

Mine is 35 minutes in one direction (home door to office door), and I feel smug
for having such a short one.

2 minutes (I've been working at a coffee shop next to my house for the last couple of months)

10-12 minutes if I drive to my office

will be 10-15 minutes walking in NYC

2 minutes also. Down the same road...

I thought you Euros all lived really close to work in the center of cities...

Why would you want to waste an hour and a half or more of your day on commuting?

          Ecologically friendly life.

Big city highrise dwellers are by far the greenest people in the developed world. We respect nature so much we know better than to try to live in it.

Anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on traffic. Usually 40ish.

US really is that short? I know people who commute hours in the US (one way). I know very very few people who have less than a 20 minute commute. I am not sure I believe it.

My commute currently is a 25 minute (slow) bike ride or a 50 minute walk. I go so slow because it is snowy/etc out.

Depends on which part of Europe we're talking about. Northerners are more likely
to rent, so it makes sense to rent near the workplace. Southerners prefer to buy,
so they commute to wherever they have to afterwards.

                    This is true.

One thing I noticed is that Sweden is (in the cities) much more dense than the US. And a whole lot more people walk/ride bikes/take transit.

I guess I could believe a slightly longer transit time due to the mode of transit.

Jon, true big city residents and small town people have much shorter commute times than people living in suburban/exurban sprawl.

Clearly, they don't consider New Yorkers in that poll. Over an hour to get across town!

Why would you live across town from your job? I'm not even considering anything north of the West Village.

I told my wife I'm not living "upstate" when she mentioned the UES.

Oh, DaShi: Do you know if you need a passport to get to Brooklyn? I have a couple of friends who live there.
