Is the Catholic church a force for good in the world?
Again, you're ideologically committed to the idea that it doesn't require someone's dedicated time, because if it did require time like this, a hard choice would have to be made. For you, truth doesn't enter into it, nor do divergent views.
Just saw this. I doubt it, aneeshm. It's more likely that Imran has experienced or witnessed a shared-homemaking (crappy term, but the best I've got for now) situation that he thought worked well. Having seen such (as I have, as many of us have), it's not something he rejects as sure-to-fail (how could you, having seen it?). So when you make these sweeping definitive statements about what it takes to have a good homelife, people who know you're full of **** (having seen real-life examples of things you assert CANNOT HAPPEN) speak up.
See. I don't think that's the case. I think there are some opinions that, to you, are always offensive no matter how they're presented. I haven't seen aneeshm lie or misdirect at all. He's merely stating a view that sounds similar to something you think is very wrong, so your interpretation of it is that he's offending and insulting people.
An opinion that a stay at home parent is better on average than different arrangements is ok. That is a simple opinion. And I'm sure a quick search could find many studies to back that up. If he want's to argue why, no problem. Actually, I don't think it's wrong in many cases. However, there are many cases where it is incorrect. It's his generalizations, and general look down his nose attitude, where he implies that couples that don't follow his opinion are bad parents or not as good as those that do it his way. That is indeed insulting and offensive. It's not simply an interpretation...
Maybe you don't see it because you agree with him, or maybe even share similar religious beliefs... or more likely, maybe you simply aren't in the group that he is targeting so you don't see it, and don't care since it's not directed at you. If you really took the time to read what he is posting with an objective open mind, you would see just what an ass he is being. Ben is usually more obvious... but frankly, this is the exact same thing.
Eugenics is for know-it-all ***** who think evolution has a direction and don't understand that fitness is best discovered through studying various adaptations to environments.

You are quite wrong.
Eugenics (meaning literaly "well bred") is about breeding the kind of man that civilzation needs to exist, or at least preventing more deadweight being added to the system. Natural selection dosen't have a direction, artifical selection does. Humans are a domesticated species whether we like it or not. If measures (such as genetic engineering) are not taken humans will contine to evolve in directions that may not be sustainable. The penalty for having low inteligence, short term thinking or down right psichopaty are much much smaller then they where in the Ice age tribe. After a few centuries the system may crash.
But the real problem is that if Homo Sapiens civilization crashes there may not be enough resources left afterwards for any other future species of man or cockroach to have a go at escaping this rock or trying to learn more about the universe.
Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

It's text-based communication between two individuals from very difficult cultures and generations. Of course it's an interpretation.

Considering that I was raised by two working parents who raised three children that turned out pretty alright, I'd have to say that I'm exactly his target. Also, it is impossible to read something "objectively" and come to the conclusion that someone is being an "ass." Impossible.
I think what you're describing is just a general definition of selective breeding, whereas eugenics usually refers to a specific philosophy developed in the 19th century that died out after Hitler's famous PR blunder.
Eugenics is selective breeding of humans.
Hitler wasn't really pro-eugenics in any meaningfull way. Sure sterilisng slow people might help a bit, but specifically targeting the a group wich not only has high inteligence (the mean IQ of the Ashkenazi Jews is higher than almost any other group with perhaps exceptions in certain East Asian populations) but has contributed much to our civilization is downright retarded.

BTW I had not read anything here except your first comment on this page when I posted, now that I started reading I don't think I want to be dragged down.

I don't think you actually understand what eugenics means, Lori.

I guess I'm not the only one that sees the sweeping definitive statements...
And as far as your "example"... you were the child, not the parents. He isn't implying that you suck and did a bad job, he's implying your parents suck and couldn't possibly have done a good job. So yeah, you weren't the target of his insults.
Also, it is impossible to read something "objectively" and come to the conclusion that someone is being an "ass." Impossible.
It's very easy to to look at something objectively and conclude that somebody is being an ass. They may not realize it because they are blinded by their own view of life, but that doesn't change the fact that they are acting like an ass. Feel free to claim I'm acting like an ass... again, that pretty much sums up the OTF these days. He started it with his parents that don't act his way are bad parents crap. And others see it as well. So he's just getting his own crap tossed back at him, just like Ben does.
I'd be more than willing to be civil and discuss things if others did the same.
To all the Eugenics haters out there: Would the world really be so horrible if we had more beautifull, smart and productive people?
No realistic eugenics program, will create monoculture humans, the current genetic diversity is here to stay. If somehow having smart, attractive people with low risks of substance abuse and crime proves maladaptive in the future there will be plenty of people of who won't have these "disatvantages" left even in nations that would take really agressive measures let alone in theocratic ****holes where teaching evolution in schools is a no no or ideological crazyhouses like NK.

He must not be allowed to reproduce, for the good of the land.
Forbidding certain people reproduction is too harsh and too prone to abuse.
I think the goverment should just offer them money not to do so.

Wouldn't it be great if we had a society where there was no private property, everything was owned collectively, and thus there was no poverty? Except we tried it and it DOESN'T ****ING WORK. Ditto eugenics. There won't be any earthly paradise so long as people are people, and if people become what people are crazy enough to think people ought to be it'll only aggravate the situation, because you have lunatics running their own asylum.
