Is the Catholic church a force for good in the world?
Eugenics is for know-it-all ***** who think evolution has a direction and don't understand that fitness is best discovered through studying various adaptations to environments.
and you don't pass judgment on those that have their own values.
But he is passing judgement... and also ignoring individual situations while sticking with his cookie cutter approach that a stay at home parent is superior. Sure, in some cases it may be superior, and in other cases, it could be the totally wrong. If you actually read his posts, it's obvious that while he makes noises like people can do whatever they want, he is looking down his nose that don't do it his way, and insinuating that they are bad parents.
So sure, he has every right to his opinion and beliefs... but he doesn't have to be an insulting closed minded jerk about it while hiding behind his supposed hollier than thou attitude... just like Ben. Some posters are just responding to his attitude in kind. If he is allowed to be an insulting jerk... he should expect and deal with what follows.
Sure, I guess you could do that, but what's the ****ing point? I don't come to Apolyton just to hurl personal abuse at random internet people. If someone has an idea - which aneeshm does - I'm going to discuss that idea. All the trappings of moral superiority and sexism and crap like that just get in the way. Why bother being bothered?

Actually, eugenics is for two groups:
1) Those that believe that they can divine what qualifies as fitness in our environment and want to enhance selection for those traits.
2) Those that want to select for something other than pure fitness wrt our environment.
I think what you're describing is just a general definition of selective breeding, whereas eugenics usually refers to a specific philosophy developed in the 19th century that died out after Hitler's famous PR blunder.

I come to Apolyton to discuss Civ
But he isn't "discussing" the idea... he's preaching and making judgements... insulting people who act differently than his opinion or mandated religious beliefs. He's not discussing ideas or opinons. He's just stating his and claiming they are correct... and insulting people that don't agree with his hollier than thou attitude. So yes, by his own attitudes and posts, he's the one causing the problem. Maybe if he was truly open to discussion, it would be different... but his posts make it obvious that while he claims others can think what they want, they are wrong... and that they are inferior to him.
Hell... most of the people left in the OTF are kind of annoying... you're point?
My point is I think you're suffering from the is-ought problem. You don't understand that people can describe how they think things are without describing how they think they should be.

You don't seem to understand that people can be complete jerks by the way they state their opinions.
Ben and aneeshm are perfect examples of bigots and sexist pigs that try to hide their outdated views behind senseless posts and misdirection and blantant lies. While their whole attitude is one of judgement and insults. I'm more than willing to have honest discussions with people who are open minded and civil... but they aren't. So they they will be treated in kind. As long as it's ok for them to sprout their kind of bigotry and sexism, don't be surprised if people respond to it. It's not like this is the first time this has happened
See. I don't think that's the case. I think there are some opinions that, to you, are always offensive no matter how they're presented. I haven't seen aneeshm lie or misdirect at all. He's merely stating a view that sounds similar to something you think is very wrong, so your interpretation of it is that he's offending and insulting people.
Let me demonstrate. If you believe that it is the way he presents his opinions rather than the opinions themselves, give me an example of a how a sexist person could state their beliefs in a way that would not be acting like a complete jerk or passing judgments or issuing insults.
Actually, I tend to agree you're being overly harsh on Aneeshm, Ming. I think he's wrong, but not malicious. True, in threads from way back he came across as more of a misogynist (note: I do not recall full-throated defense of the Caste System. In fact, I recall repeated statements that he though the Caste System was wrong, bad, etc., but he did do some minimizing). But here in this thread, I think what he's basically shown is that he has (what appears to us to be) a ~1950s mindset about gender roles, but that he's not an absolutist about them. To wit, he acknowledged that a man could take his full-time homemaker role and that it's even possible he'd be better at it.
That's enough for me to believe that he'd not prefer to ram his personal preferences down everybody else's throats.
