Sarah Palin lashes media, aides in memoir
Former Republican VP candidate bashes media, McCain, campaign aides

NEW YORK–The rumours are true: The McCain-Palin campaign was not a happy family.

In Sarah Palin's memoir, Going Rogue, she confirms reports of tension between her aides and those of the 2008 Republican presidential candidate, Senator John McCain. The vice-presidential candidate confirms she had wanted to speak on election night but was denied the chance and says she was kept "bottled up" from reporters during the campaign.

Palin also writes harshly of CBS anchor Katie Couric, whom she describes as "badgering" and biased. Palin's series of interviews with Couric were widely regarded as disastrous, leaving the impression of an ill-informed candidate who was unsuited for the job.

The 413-page book, written with Lynn Vincent, comes out Nov. 17. Going Rogue, with a first printing of 1.5 million copies, has been at or near the top of Amazon.com and other best-seller lists for weeks.

The book follows Palin from childhood to her departure last summer as Alaska governor. It includes much of what her admirers, and detractors, expected: tributes to family and faith and patriotism, and attacks against the media and other perceived opponents.

She writes about the "jaded aura" of professional campaign aides and how McCain's entourage limited her access to the media, leading to allegations – unfounded, she says – that she was avoiding reporters.

Palin shares behind-the-scenes moments when the nation learned her teen daughter Bristol was pregnant, how she rewrote the statement prepared for her by the McCain campaign – only to watch in horror as a TV news anchor read the original McCain camp statement, which, in Palin's view, glamourized and endorsed her daughter's situation.
    So, let's discuss.

How epicly stupid was McCain for picking Palin?
How epicly stupid were the people who supported Palin?
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

I'll give McCain a 2/10 or a 3/10 on the stupid scale. He was gambling on Palin garnering support from idiots and being laughed off by non-idiots. As far as I can tell, this is what happened.

Palin supporters who think she's some kind of non-braindead maverick generally measure between an 8/10 and a 10/10 on the stupid scale depending on how committed they are to the rhetoric. Palin supporters who just think that she's a milf may fall anywhere at all on the stupid scale.

I don't recall ever seeing a VP pick speaking at the nominee's concession speech on Election Night. It's not supposed to be *your* moment, you selfish *****.

Yes, which is why I said that the stupidity of those finding her hot can cover the full range on the stupid-o-meter. If somebody finds her hot and also thinks that she is some sort of non-braindead maverick then they all in the 8-10 range. If somebody finds her hot and thinks that she and all of her supporters are abject morons then they likely fall lower on the scale. (Not necessarily though, as it's possible to e.g. find Palin hot, think she's an idiot, and be a committed Creationist.)

As you probably have heard, the AP snagged a copy of my memoir, Going Rogue, before its Tuesday release. And as is expected, the AP and a number of subsequent media outlets are erroneously reporting the contents of the book. Keep your powder dry, read the book, and enjoy it! Lots of great stories about my family, Alaska, and the incredible honor it was to run alongside Senator John McCain.

We can't wait to hit the road and meet so many on the book tour! See you in Michigan first...

Don't tell you're dumb enough to think she made a difference either way. McCain lost because the economy collapsed.

Oh he would have lost without her, but she helped make the margin so much the worse for him.
