For starters, we need to parachute in regular loads of BLT or pulled-pork sandwiches to the poorest regions. The three objectives being to stop the threat of starvation, teach the populace that Americans aren't so bad, and help them discover the joys of delicious piggy-meat (thereby undermining support for sharia law).
I think your plan sounds like the Clinton doctrine. It reminds me a bit of Kosovo, Iraq in the 90s, and indeed the Afghanistan incident on his watch. Send some token bombs their way till they stop being in the evening news anymore.

About the pork plan: Even secular or atheist alcohol-drinking Muslims have that particular taboo deeply ingrained and will often refuse to eat pork. I think it a hard sell.

Also, as an incentive, we could let them rename that "Hindu Kush" on the map "Allah's Fun Rocks" if they behaved.
Interesting thing about that name. Kushtan is Persian for "to kill" with kush as the root. Then Hindu Kush can be interpreted as "The Killing of Indians". That also happens to be one of the few things the Taliban are allowed to do for fun after they've banned coed schools, Persian pop and Bollywood movies, so I think they already did. Killing infidels, sleeping in a cave, drinking tea-flavored sugar and humping your wives. Ah what a life for a mujahid.

I think containment is a foolish option. The Pakistani border is poorly understood. There's nothing stopping AQ from crossing it and going to Pakistan.

Quarantine means quarantine. Stick them in a box until they run out of bullets and fertilizer or take out their rage on each other.

Kitschum, what about porn? Could they be won over with a massive influx of American pornography? I mean the softcore kind, of course; pics of a woman in handcuffs and a leather mask getting whipped would get them excited for all the wrong reasons.

It would not be possible especially since the Pakistanis and Iranians surely will not want to do so. The former Soviet Republics do have reason not to trust a new Taliban government as would the Chinese but they're already so undeveloped and disconnected it probably wouldn't matter. It's not like an embargo is going to do **** to them since they've already been discounted with most world trade since 1979.

Sorry. Mistook this for a serious thread.

            My bad, carry on.

AQ is already in Pakistan you ****ing ******!

It's the Taliban that we're fighting in Afghanistan, not AQ who went to ground in Pakistan when Bushie let them slip through his fingers at Tora Bora...

That's essentially the problem in Afghanistan. We're basically fighting a 3rd party (the Taliban) who weren't actually responsible for 9/11, or indeed any terrorism outside of their borders.

We had a chance to maintain the initiative and finish them back in 2001, but instead Bush went after Iraq. Now the whole thing is cluster****ed because of Bush, and Obama is in danger of inflicting the final defeat by his dithering.

The Taliban smell blood now, all they have to do is ratchet up the violence a bit more and the soft Western infidels will leave as they've always done in the past...
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

Did I overlook it, or has indeed noone made the usual "let's nuke the site from orbit" comment yet?

Build a wall. It wouldn't be that expensive if you shorten the border by giving land to nighbouring contries. Then you can charge other countries for dumping their criminals there.

Also consider doing the same to California once Afganistan is full.

I'd like a wall in California. Anything to stop the flow of job seeking eastern Europeans.

Now now. What would Snake Plisken say about suggestions of this kind?

You are right. The only proper way to get rid of California is to split it off the mainland.

Stop questioning your betters, you former Soviet lackey. don't even start about Tito's 3rd way either because the bottom line is he was a ***** like the rest of them. I lived in the former Yugoslavia for a year so I'm well aware that Slovenia is the better part of that (former) country but that said the better part of a turd is still a turd. Or maybe Slovenia is half a **** covered peanut or something but the analogy holds.

Besides, south slav women have mustaches and you just can't respect a people who's women have mustaches.
