Still persisting with this lame argument?

OK Zkribbler - Tell me what he DID in those 9 days to deserve/earn the award.

He was nominated 9 days into his term? Get real.

Don't roll your eyes at me, jack.

      This explains it.

Maybe he means it was all the good stuff he did as President after he was nominated that really cinched the award for him?
If at first you don't succeed, take the bloody hint and give up.

        • Like what? Let's just give him the ****ing nomination and not question it. What did he do to win it?

Oh good. If I wasn't already convinced, this seals the deal.

That is a limited list, still more goals than realities.

It still doesn't answer what he did to earn the nomination. If it was future expectations then I say again, the award should have gone to the American voters.

It sounds like the Nobel should have gone to the American people that elected him instead. If the award is given for Obama's expected future actions the voters should get it for providing him the opportunity.

              This.

What was the timing of giving it to Mandela?

              • You're comparing Obama to Mandela now?

Hey, I'm not saying I agree with him, I'm just pointing out the hairs he seems to be splitting.

I bet all the other nominations are pi**ed off that they spent so many years actually doing all the stuff they did to try and make the world a better place only to find out that all they had to do was actually talk about it.

                  • Obama has changed the entire tenor of U.S. foreign policy from saber-rattling to diplomacy, from self-centered hegemonism to multilateral mutual respect. This has provided an atmoshere in which the Iranians and the North Koreans feel it will be productive to return to negotiations. He has lessened tensions with Russia, which had been threatening to blossom into a new Cold War. He has changed the U.S. policy on climate change.
None of this has actually happened. All Obama has done is dressed up the always harsh and self interested world of international diplomacy with some cheap walmart widow dressing, the positions of no one has changed in any meaningful sense. The status quo reigns. Thats what happens when your foreign policy consists of infomercials.

No. I wasn't comparing. I was wondering about the timing of giving the prize to Mandela.

I am agreeing with Wezil that the prize for Obama is largely symbolic. It might well have been given to the US electoral college.

As for concrete accomplishments, at the very least he defeated Hillary and prevented her from being the 'anyone not a Republican' choice on the ballot.

                      • US electoral college will never appear anywhere regarding this award. I don't guess any of it really matters to me. It's the people who awarded him the Nobel that will look like dip****s throughout time.

                        • First black president of the US was a big thing outside the US. It had/has a lot to do with the world's reaction to him.

                          • It also had a lot to do with the immediate change in perception about the US following Bush.

If you're in one of those groups mentioned above (or a health care worker), get the vaccine. If not, you could still consider getting it, depending on supply; if not, just be smart.
