yup. aahz knows a lot about one subgenre of a particular kind of music, and, errr...that's it, to the exclusion of all else. it's stupid and sad, a bit aahz himself.

Yet you the were one praising him before and denigating everything I posted. Go figure.

It's like gribbler in that Led Zeppelin thread, going out of his way to say that rappers suck because all they can do is talk. That's like saying poets suck because all they can do is talk. Like really? What is going on? Why does rap get no respect from you all? I wonder if a lot of it is because rap like AAHZ likes exists and is holding down the entire genre in the public consciousness. You hear rap and people automatically think bling bling *****es and hoes, cars and rims, gangster selling drugs and killing people with a real heavy window-rattling bass-line.

That's what all the 50 year old people like Sloww think; that's what the people in power think; even though rap in its present form is over 30 years old and has even older origins like I pointed out, and the styles of rap are as diverse as the styles of rock encompassing everything from the Rolling Stones to Marilyn Manson, there's this automatic tendency to associate rap with trash. No other genre of music is so misrepresented in the popular consciousness by the absolute worst dregs of it.

        • ah, poor baby.

i've only praised aahz insofar as i said that he is at least into his rap, whereas you posted a lot of poppy crap. it's hardly necessary to point out his narrow focus, because anyone who reads these threads can see that for themselves. in fairness you seem to have stepped up your game in recent times. although your focus is still somewhat narrow. not knowing who led zeppelin are, i mean seriously...

          • You just don't appreciate Kanye West and these new cats. To you, that's poppy crap but you probably would have called Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul poppy crap in 1989. I know AAHZ sure would have.

And there's nothing exclusively wrong with something being popular. It's great if what's popular is also creative, meaningful, or at least just fun. But when irredeemable trash is popular that's a problem. Despite what you think, Kanye is not trash. He's not the greatest rapper technically-speaking but he surrounds himself with talent and he tries to produce stuff with value. His association with all-time greats like Common and Q-tip says a lot about his legitimacy.

Kanye and others are a shining beacon and a return to real hip hop, away from this Southern gangster trash.

Kanye is real and honest and doesn't talk that dumb ****.

            As Kanye says:
"I woke up early this morning with a new state of mind
A creative way to rhyme without using nines and guns
Keep your nose out the sky, keep your heart to God
And keep your face to the rising sun"

Like seriously, compare that to the South **** that AAHZ posts... Kanye is a veritable breath of fresh air.

            • The test is if people would still like the lyrics without the beat in the background; how does it work as spoken word? If that happens then the lyrics and the voice have value. Kanye passes that test:

AAHZ's rappers can't do that because they have throw-away lyrics.

              • i don't think that kayne is doing anything that hasn't been done before and done better by others. he might be more popular than those people, but that doesn't make him any more legitimate. he's not a fantastic rapper by any stretch of the imagination. also, i find the production on his records both boring and unoriginal, and worse, it seems to spawned a lot of copycats with that sort of sound.

and we've touched on this before, but i will repeat. rap music is not simply people like kayne west and people that aahz likes. it's a lot more varied and interesting than that. so your constant attempts to present it as a battle between these two things is bull****.

oh and nice 20 minutes later edit after i've responded to your one line original
