Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
Your grandparents are full of crap.
As they grumble about how rap music is destroying civilization, what they don't mention is that the blues they were listening to in the 30s and 40s could be every bit as violent, sexually explicit and sometimes just downrigh
Nothing but explicit violence in this song:
"When I get a rhythm of this rusty black handle razor;
you're gonna be booked out for an ambulance ride;
Cause I'm gonna cut A, B, C, D on top of your head;
That's gonna be treating you nice like mama you ain't gonna be dead.
I'm gonna cut E, F, G right across your face;
H, I, J, K, that's where runnin' bound to take place;
Cut L, M, N cross both your arms;
You'll sell an' peddle gal your whole life long;
Cut N, O, P, Q that's gonna be trouble too;
Cause I'm gonna grab you mama and turn you every way but loose;
Cut R, S, T to hear you cry;
That'll be the last time tears a run from over your eyes;
Cut U, V, W on the bottom of your feet;
That'll be the last time you walk up an' down 25th street;
Marking cross your bosom with X, Y, Z;
When I get through with this alphabet;
You'll quit your messing with me."
I mean compare that blues song to these 2pac lyrics from the song Unconditional Love I posted earlier... which one is violent and misogynistic?
"Come listen to my truest thoughts, my truest feelings
All my peers doing years beyond drug dealing
How many caskets can we witness
Before we see it's hard to live
This life without God, so we must ask forgiveness
Ask mama why I got this urge to die
Witness the tears falling free from my eyes
Before she could reply
Though we were born without a silver spoon
My broken down TV, show cartoons in my living room (hey)
One day I hope to make it
A player in this game
Mama don't cry, long as we try
Maybe things change
Perhaps it's just a fantasy
A life where we don't need no welfare
**** with our whole family
Maybe it's me that caused it
The fighting and the hurting
In my room crying cause I didn't want to be a burden
Watch mama open up her arms to hug me
And I ain't worried bout a damn thang, with unconditionl love"
And 2pac was clearly a 'gangster' rapper. You need to re-appraise even your understanding of gangster rap.
Rap has gotten criticized the same way rock and roll got criticized... the same way soul music got criticized... same way the blues and jazz got criticized... and that criticism came purely out of racism. If any of these people listened to a 2pac album, yeah some stuff would disturb them, but then other stuff is like the above... and they might get puzzled by the apparent dichotomy but it's not a dichotomy at all... it's not some odd juxtaposition anymore than real life consists of odd juxtapositions... 2pac rapped about real life and that includes murder and drugs as much as things like family and the need for young girls to want more in life than being single mothers.
Maybe 2pac should have been more like Common and others and not talk about the violent stuff but he was also 26 when he was murdered. Jay-Z, Ice Cube, and others have mellowed out but it took getting into their late 30's and 40's before they did it.
