So, if the government wants to research something, what should be the criteria governing whether it gets funding? Should the Feds just greenlight every proposal, up to and including, say, $3 billion to computer-model the herd behavior of something that went extinct in the late Triassic? Or should we only use tax dollars to fund useless research of certain kinds?
