someone said you don't ask why in science. this isn't true. Many people have asked why, and discovered many great things because of it. It's the basis of science. I'm sure Franklin wanted to know why flying a kite in a thunderstorm would get him hit by lightning for example.

As for the big bang, there are a couple of theories. One is that there was just one big bang. But another proposes eventually the universe will collapse upon itself, and repeat the process. This would be just a physic phenomena and there is no reason why it happens.

I had a theory once for why existence exists.

Basically, it's a paradox for nothing to exist, so existence does.

Ducks cannot create time machines; hence the number of ducks required is the number necessary to evolve into either (a) a duck with the genetic ability to travel back in time or (b) a duck with the intelligence and ability to create a time machine. I think we can assume that we're going to need a lot of ducks for this.

Of course this answer assumes that time travel is possible. If it is impossible, then the answer is none.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

          No.

Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila

Did you come up with that sophism all by yourself?

Its likeable if you think the idea that you can't beat a turtle in a race is deep.

Is Matt Bowron your DL? I've never met anyone else on this site who can use that kind of pretentious, bastardized reasoning and pretend it's brilliant.

I'm not a scientist, but I suppose the genuine critical thinking answer to your question would be, "well, why not?" Of course, either question is unanswerable empirically, as like a billion people have said already.

If I couldn't beat a trutle in a race, then it wouldn't be a trutle anymore, hence I have to beat the trutle.

Yeah, well I disagree. We have yet to understand everything. Does that not make sense to you?

of course you can beat a turtle in a race. They are slow.

OK it doesn't actually explain anything. But you can say it's the short version. The long version involves a deep explanation of the big bang, baryogenesis and all this other crap I can't remember.

I do believe it is possible for nothing to exist. As with the question. What occupied the space that our current universe occupies before the big bang? The answer? nothing. It did not exist.

Sure, disciplines that involve intelligent agents. I can ask why Hitler invaded Poland. I can't ask why an earthquake went off in 2004, kill 200,000 people, without assuming some intelligent agent caused it.

You also mischaracterize science as being wholly uninterested in this question. Psychology, for instance, is clearly intimately concerned with it.

not until you explain why not existing is a paradox. I admit it sounds cool, but it isn't true. See my example above about the geometry of the universe etc.
