I had to google alfalfa so I hope you are the only one.

Also, why does hummus look like humus?
because the extra m makes it chunky.

    Mystery meat.
its probably minced lamb and cow.

Actually I didn't want to bias what I though of the food. Kind of like eating New York sausage pizza and wondering what happened to the cats that were sometimes behind the resturant.
    hehe
    that exists everywhere

While my mother was a good Italian cook, I think most of the stuff I ate as a kid wouldn't be considered exotic. Eating with a large Lebanese family was quite the different experience for me. I liked almost everything they ever served. But maybe I wouldn't have if I knew what it was.
    I doubt it.
They have great salads with stuff.

My opinion on the matter is if it tastes good and won't make me sick, I don't care what it ends up being.

      • Exactly. That's why I didn't want to know.

And whenever I discussed meats with her, (her english wasn't very good, which I'm sure didn't help) she'd just keep repeating, meat is meat. So after that I really never pushed the issue.

        • Well not wanting to know means you did somewhat care what it ends up being .

          • Not really. I really like deep fried gator, but when I found out it was gator, I had to think about it twice. I'd prefer just to eat it an enjoy it and not think about it. I just want to care that it's good.

            • Really? I mean, I had gator because I wanted to try gator, but I found it to be overly chewy and not all that great.

What are you gonna do at 3am and you've got no tahini in the house and a craving for hummus?

My first introduction to Arabic food was with bad hummus. It was "grainy" in texture, like it was from dry powdered reconstituted stuff. I was so unimpressed I didn't try it again for years. The same was true for me with Indian food, btw.

That's a good way to die. When the EMTs come because you're having an allergic reaction to something you ate, how are you going to tell them what it was the made you sick? And how are you going to avoid it in the future?

In small bites its fine, otherwise it needs to be stewed, maybe braised or BBQed. It's got a lot of connective tissue.

                  • I could probably eat almost anything if it's deep fried. I've had some that was a bit too chewy, but some that wasn't.

I have had that. Didn't care for it.
