I take it you're unfamiliar with that adjective. Sand doesn't have any grain in it either, and it's definitely grainy. It means much the same as "gritty."

Actually depends on taste. There's also dish called Masabaha which consists of warm humus, with ungrained cooked chickpeas, lots of lemon juice and olive oil.
