  • Should fatness be a factor in choosing the surgeon general?

Well it appears she's a fattie. And more telling is she really did nothing to curb the obesity problem in Alabama.

It really saddens me to see my great country fall in this way. I'd kind of rather see us go down in glory with some great bloody war with Russia or China . Perhaps that may still happen. But to fall from grace because we are fat cows. Pathetic. I'm surprised we can still support a military with everyone being overweight. How long before we can't even find pilots thin enough to fly our planes? I guess it's good we are leaning towards unmanned aircraft now days.

The fatties want you to accept fat as being healthy and normal. I refuse that notion. The numbers don't lie. People were not this fat 50 or 60 years ago. Something is seriously wrong here. While a recent study did show some extra weight to be beneficial, most people simply have too much.

and to continue my poll making trend...

      She hasn't missed many meals.

Well, she may be a polygamist and had to eat every meal several times with the different families.

No proof, just a guess, though she should know ho to eat healthy.

Fat people want us to accept them, but everyone knows that fatties are ugly.

Get on a treadmill, you fat ****! Stop eating McDonald's, KFC, and bacon sandwiches - a salad wouldn't ****ing kill you.

No, but being black should be a factor.

Anyone here think it's a coincidence?

We all know that you are a religious nutcase, but are you also racist ?

Well, I guess that we learn every day we live.

Are you arguing that she would have been under consideration if she were white?

                She is massively unqualified.

I don't see why criticising affirmative action hires is racist, unless you believe that black people need the help.

                        Why?
                        Steven K. Galson

Galson began his Public Health Service (PHS) career as an epidemiological investigator at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after completing a residency in internal medicine at the Hospitals of the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He has held senior-level positions at the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy where he was the Chief Medical Officer, and the Department of Health and Human Services. Prior to his arrival at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Galson was the Director of the Office of Science Coordination and Policy, Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances, at the EPA. Galson joined FDA in April 2001 as the CDER Deputy Center Director and was appointed Director in July 2005.
                        compare this with:

Regina Benjamin is former associate dean for rural health at the University of South Alabama's College of Medicine in Mobile, where she administers the Alabama AHEC program and previously directed its Telemedicine Program. She serves as the current president of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. In 1995 she was elected to the American Medical Association's board of trustees, making her the first physician under age 40 and the first African-American woman to be elected. She also served on the Florida A & M University Board of Trustees after being appointed by Florida Governor Jeb Bush
She wasn't even a full dean, let alone having held senior-level administrative positions in other government agencies.

I'd imagine her fatness has already been taken into consideration and she managed to get the job on the strength of other qualities.

Anyway, what is it that makes her a bad SG ?

Where did I say she was going to be a bad SG? I said nothing of the sort.

I have a problem with affirmative action hires. Do you know how many associate deans there are in the entire US? probably on the order of several thousand.

What makes this lady particularly notable other then the fact that she's of the right skin colour and is an MD?

Oh and she treated people in Katrina too. Cool.
