  • The American "Healthcare" thread

So how on earth are you allowing yourselves to be in this situation in which tens of millions of people are without medical coverage?

Why can't you accept one of the many models of socialized healthcare that have been proven to work worldwide?

Americans, why do you hate yourselves and like dying?

It's a fallacy to think that 10s of millions are without the ability to get medical treatment; they can, they just can't pay for it... So, the tax payer picks up the bill.

And, the reason why socialized health care won't work are many. One reason is that we would have to raise our already high taxes to cover it. Unlike other countries we have a military to fund, a military that other countries rely on to protect their interests as well as ours.

We suffer so you don't have to. Enjoy.

I dare say there are a substantial number of people that chafe at the thought of mandated coverage. Just like any number of people get pissed off that they are required to have auto insurance they never use.

You don't need to raise your taxes. Just stop invading other countries.

If they're the same people who ***** about mandatory auto insurance, they're pretty monumentally stupid.

The insurance is not for their benefit.

Mandatory auto insurance is actually quite reasonable (liability, not collision)

Who cares the point is it is mandated and an infringement on personal choice, regardless of the societal benefit writ large.

I thought the plan was to invade other countries and take their doctors and nurses so that our healthcare costs go down. If I'd known that wasn't the case then I would have never voted for Bush.

Yes, and the people who think this are both *******s and incapable of reasonable thought.

                      b) Are you also of the opinion that it should be legal to drive while intoxicated, so long as nobody gets hurt?

If no one gets hurt, I fail to see the problem with it. Can't wait for technology to make this an achievable reality...

I don't mean that nobody gets hurt in the aggregate. Merely that on a given drink-soaked road trip you don't hit anybody.

Leave drunk drivers alone. Throw the book at drunk crashers.

No. Drunk driving should be illegal so long as there's a significant risk of such behavior resulting in injury to other people and their property.
