When I worked at a grocery store, I was forced to join the union. The company could not hire non-union workers. I was also then forced to pay union dues...

Unions only work if they're the only source of labour for the company.

The only jurisdictions in Canada that cannot use strike breakers are BC and Quebec.

IIRC, the reason there were not non-players union teams during the NHL lockout (and that it was not even seriously discussed) and the entire season was lost is that the Canucks and Habs could not do it. Two out of ~24 jurisdictions.
