In Anytown, USA, there's really nothing as sexually flamboyant as a gay pride parade happening.

The closest thing that comes to mind is Mardi Gras in New Orleans (even that's a stretch). But on the whole, the US doesn't follow the carnival period where anything goes.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Gay Pride parades just make straight people upset that gays are having more fun...
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

I don't know about that DAN, the last Mardi Gras I was at was much worse than any gay pride parade that I've seen in Chicago. Mixing booze with any large group of people is never going to produce a civilized result and I guarentee that there was more booze at Mardi Gras than at the gay pride parade.

Comparing Gay Pride parades to Civil Rights Marches is ridiculous rah. If you want to be taken serious don't show up drunk and in only your underwear. If the gay pride parade is promoting civil liberties, which I support, it is going about it completely wrong. The whole debacle is not only widespread in the US but paints the whole set in a bad light whether you care to see it that way or not. What sort of mix message is being sent by the community at large when you see the "don't say it's gay" commercial at the same time you see this BS.

It's hard to take some of them seriously when it appears as though many do not. You never say black people behaving like this as they were demand equal rights.

Actually the highlights from the CHicago parade were mostly of groups of gays that were almost in tears of happiness because they were to participate and show everyone that they were gay instead of hiding it. This has tremendous impact. But if all you see is the negative, it makes me think that's what you want to see.

              1. The last Mardi Gras I was at was much tamer than the last gay pride parade that I saw in DC, the first float of which was being sponsored by the local gay strip joint, as I recall. You were probably in the French Quarter.

              2. Booze is beside the point. There are plenty of booze-fests every Saturday in the fall that don't turn into an exposition on heterosexuality.

Dan, mardi gras in NO turns into ugly girls flashing their titties and guys punching each other's faces in over absolutely nothing.

I'll take a little well-oiled man meat over that any day of the week.

Spring break is all about booze and heterosexuality. And I'm sure more cops have been called in for spring break excesses than those at gay pride parades. The only difference is that gay pride parades are planned and not as spontaneous so there's more press coverage.

agreed. How many cities had gay pride parades. (i don't keep track of that since we usually just see the coverage of the one here in CHICAGO)

No, but loads of kids from Anytown go to certain prespecified locations to practice their douchebaggery.

Out of sight, out of mind.

The day that man-love becomes as accepted as going on spring break is the day that gay pride should be hidden where the squares don't have to deal with it.

Personally, I think that the US could deal with a lot more open displays of sexuality rather than less.

The squares rule respectable society in the US, I'm afraid to say. Now more than ever. Disney uber alles.

Japher, gay pride parades celebrate homosexuality. It's inherent that there will be sexuality involved.

Just as St Patrick's day parades involve a lot of green, and Thanksgiving parades have Pilgrims and Indians.

When homosexual groups march on DC they hardly act the same as they do during gay pride events.
